Thought of as the consummate entrepreneur…and intrapreneur by his friends and associates, Mark has spent decades learning how to be the very best of the best …and how he could help others achieve their dreams of being the best in their perspective fields. Mark’s philosophy is that once you become the best in your field it is easy to lead. Mark learned quickly that being an entrepreneur was the only thing that made him happy. By the age of 9 Mark was well on his way. While attending an all-day coin show with his father, Mark was put to the test by his father when he gave the young entrepreneur a 1954P Lincoln Head penny with the value of $0.15 and challenged him to double the value of his prized penny by the end of the show. After hours of negotiating, selling and reselling a variety of coins to various dealers and individuals attending the show he returned at the end of the day with over $26.00. The young entrepreneur had shown his true colors and was well on his way. By the age of 12 Mark was earning a 5 figure annual income simply by purchasing a $20 lawn mower and starting a mowing business. His initial goal was to cut five lawns a week for $5 apiece. By the end of that first summer he owned seven lawn mowers and had eight of his friends working with him and mowed over 75 lawns a week. When the seasons changed so did the focus of Mark’s business. Mark moved immediately into a snow removal service for the same 75 customers that he worked for that summer mowing their lawns. Mark learned quickly what a good work ethic, a little ingenuity and great customer service would do to help him profit year round. By 18, Mark and two of his college friends began a silk-screening business out of his friend’s basement. Within 90 days their business became one of the top custom silk-screened sports apparel vendors in the area. Mark also believed in working for the community and he became an award winning Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycee) member and later a JCI Senator with the Ralston Jaycees, Nebraska Jaycees and the United States Jaycees. Mark has always loved the outdoors and has nurtured a growing interest in conservation. Because of that love, Mark started the National Outdoorsmen’s Association where he served as founding president. During his work with the association he registered and opened over 23,000,000 acres of private land in seven states for outdoor recreational activities. All 23,000,000 acres were open in less than 2 years. Mark turned his entrepreneurial genius and intrapreneurial mind sets to real estate to build one of the most esteemed real estate careers in the nation. Starting as a small one-man-show, Mark developed his business exponentially in just four short years to be one of the top 10 companies in the market. Mark dedicated himself to the job at hand and became one of the select few that fill the top 1% of the agents in the area. Always working to help his fellow entrepreneurs, Mark grew his local office to produce $100 million sales garnering the recognition that comes with developing the first office in the state that produced that kind of through-the-ceiling volume. On top of that, Mark increased his agents’ productivity from $1.4 million in annual sales production to $3.6 million in only two years; then he pumped up the sales of his real estate office from just over $61 million to over a quarter of a billion dollars in sales volume. While pushing production, growing morale and helping his agents mature in the business Mark realized that often fundamental training didn’t give the agents what they really needed to become successful. Working to correct the inadequacies in education, Mark developed his award winning real estate continuing education programs that captured over 50% of the training market in only three years. Mark has always believed in the value of education and has earned more professional, national, and educational real estate designations than any other real estate broker in the nation. Mark currently holds the REE, CRB, ABRM, CRS, ABR, GRI, e-PRO, NHS, and CREN designations and is a nationally recognized real estate educator. Mark has always worked to be better. So when he discovered the value of natural supplements he researched to find the best of the best in natural supplement manufacturers. Once Mark found Rexall Showcase International he became a distributor. As usual, it didn’t take Mark long to go from a new distributor to #2 in the world in only 14 months. Mark became well known for his exceptional drive and ability to help everyone in his organization succeed beyond their wildest imagination. In 2006, Mark founded REEsults Coaching™…training, mentoring, and coaching programs for entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs that want that competitive edge that is so critical in every endeavor. Since the launch of REEsults Coaching™…Mark and his coaching staff have worked with a variety of businesses and industries. Brad Timmins – Sat down with one of the co-founders of The Basket Is Full, Inc., and asked why is specialty coffee so expensive? Jonathan Primo Fuego Galicia shared with Mr. Timmins that the coffee industry is as complex as the wine industry. We are currently in the third wave coffee movement era. Third-wave coffee means: Your local roasters know their beans. We know the country, soil health and farm conditions of the beans, we’ve been to the farm and take incredible steps to focus our attention on unlocking each note seed favor. Also keep in mind, that each barista now competes for top price of extracting strongest note flavors and after taste. During the first two eras of coffee the industry was not functioning like the wine industry was. Coffee is unique and with 1.5 billions of cups served each day to consumers, not everyone is interested in commercially grown low grade burnt coffee anymore. The quality of coffee matters to us and we only sell “Premium Coffee for the Sophisticated Taste Buds.” The level of attention to detail gets pricey. Think you’re used to $5 cups? How about $10 or $15 for a cup of coffee picked and brewed with the care that goes into making a fine wine. So the next time you see a sign indicating a price north of $5 for a cup of coffee, remember this breakdown:
Meaning, if you drink “Premium” coffee from a micro roaster that pays top price to import the best Ethiopian coffee, you can justifiably tell your friends that you have a personal Ethiopian coffee farmer who cares that you drinking the best source of coffee Ethiopia produces. I tell people, “Ninety-nine percent of everything in life I don’t need to know about.” I try to focus on the one percent that gives us the highest return. And of the remaining ninety-nine percent, Nancy keeps me aware of whatever I need to know. It’s one of the ways I keep from getting totally out of balance in my life. Being willing to give up some of the things you love in order to focus on what has the greatest impact isn’t an easy lesson to learn. One of the best ways to focus on the 1% that makes the biggest impact to your companies bottom line, is to cultivate a mind-set of thinking one size better. Let’s face it: most people dream to small. They don’t think big enough and selfish thinking will only allow them to remain insecure. Henry Curtis advises, “Make your plans as fantastic as you like, because twenty-five years from now, they will seem mediocre. Make your plans ten times as great as you first planned, and twenty-five years from now you will wonder why you did not make them fifty times as great. I just finished reading, “Built to Last” and the author mention that People need BHAGs – BIG HAIRY AUDACIOUS GOALS. I believe if you push yourself to dream more expansively, to imagine your organization one size bigger each month, then set a goal to get it there. I know that you will begin to move toward accomplishing more then you did the day before. You will be force to grow doesn’t matter what you are currently able to do, creativity can make you capable of much more. I will leave you with a quote that I believe will make you smile, “If it is true that we are here to help others, then what exactly are the OTHERS here for?” Pur Java Coffee Concentrate Sauces and Marinades A nice hot cup of Pur Java concentrate coffee is the perfect morning eye opener, but this dark heavy concentrate can be used for more than just drinking. Pur Java concentrate has a special affinity for meats and is an ideal ingredient for marinades and sauces. Use our favorite Pur Java concentrate coffee to add a delicious flavor component to dinner and enjoy that fresh brewed cup in a whole new way. Tips for cooking with Pur Java concentrate 1. Pair coffee with strong flavors Pur Java concentrate will boost the flavor of most meats, like beef, pork or chicken. Pur Java concentrate is very strong and flavorful and, consequently, should be paired with other strong flavors. 2. Use Pur Java concentrate like a spice Pur Java concentrate rubs, marinades and sauces add a delectable complexity to grilled meats, but coffee can also punctuate its distinctive taste into soups and stews and even tomato sauce. Think of using Pur Java concentrate as a spice, like you would use any other spice. 3. Try Pur Java concentrate in its different forms Pur Java concentrate can be used in both cooked and overnight marinade form. Pur Java concentrate is good for rubs and marinades. Pur Java concentrate works great in stews or sauces because you don’t have to brew it due to our 20+ ratio. When something is not going to be cooked, opt to use Pur Java Concentrate because grounds tend to stay grainy in a sauce or marinade. 4. Get creative with coffee As a rule, Pur Java concentrate pairs well with citrus, cinnamon, allspice, cloves, garlic and salt. Enjoy and don’t forget to share your experience with us at www.purjava.com If you would like this recipe and many others, please contact us at purjava.com When was the last time you did something for the first time? Do you avoid taking risks (making a discussion and accepting the decision consequences) or trying new things? One of the best ways to get out of the rut of your own thinking is to innovate. You can do that in little, everyday ways: Drive to work a different way from normal. Order an unfamiliar dish at your favorite restaurant. Ask a different colleague to help you with a familiar project. Take yourself off of auto pilot. Unpopular thinking asks questions and seeks options. In 2013, I moved my family from Virginia to Nebraska. Nebraska is a nice state, but there is NO BEACH ! Immediately after moving here, I began looking for water activity to keep the peace in my house. Well I found several pool options and also found out about Schlitterbahn Waterpark in Texas. Often I am amazed to see people complaining rather then looking for solutions with excitement. What is the problem? To many people have not tried new things in new ways. It is true: most people are more satisfied with old problems than committed to finding new solutions that encourage feelings of joy again. How you go about doing new things in new ways is not as important as making sure you do it. (Besides, if you trying to do new things in the same way that everyone else does, are you really going against popular thinking? Get out there and do something different today. Is it me, or does it feel weird to start thinking about Summer Break plans? I am still getting used to the idea that it’s actually March and we will be sipping green Pur Java in nine days to celebrate a certain Irish holiday. Wait! Do people still drink green beer on St. Patrick’s Day? Or is that something my buddies would have been trying to do on Spring Break in Miami 19 years ago? Wait! Did I just reveal a 19-year-old secret I was suppose to take to my grave? Hey I was 21 and it was legal for me to drink. Even though I won’t be jetting off to Miami with my best buddies to have fun and soak up some much needed sun, while attempting to keep them from doing the crazy keg stand….Olympics. Did I just say keg stand? OY VEY!!! I will be visiting the next best place, Pur Java future retail locations. Lately, we all have been working long hours staying in line with Pur Java business plans and we are in need of a spring break retreat with our entire team. Anyway, depending on what you are doing for Spring Break, I highly recommend adding these breakfast options, Waffles sprinkled with powder sugar and strawberries, Waffles stuffed with bacon with maple syrup on the side and a fresh cup of Pur Java Rwanda medium roast coffee with a side of OJ. So what do you say? Let’s get stuffed and do a little OY VEY together! It's time for a rebirth of America, in America, by Americans. It's time for us to reimagine everything. Currently, we are comfortable helping the poor with philanthropy, government assistance, or mirco-finance, but these solution are all inadequate. The poor don't just need "HELP"; they need investment. They need to be treated as customers and job creators. The main driver of freedom in the world today is not the vote but access to capital and knowledge about how to use it (establishing and understanding self-determination). That means financial and ecomonic empowerment. If people don't understand the global language of money, and if they don't have a bank or credit union account, they are simply an economic slave to being left out of the American Dream. The poor and the undeserved have never gotten a memo, a manual, or any education in free enterprise and responsible capitalism. Poor neighborhoods and communities simply make the rules up as they go. It's not surprising that these communities have fallen behind; they amazing part is that they have done a pretty impressive job of this thing with no help, almost no guidance, and zero role modeling of real wealth creation. Unfortunately , the vast majority of these economic shortcuts impose in time and produce the feelings of unsafe neighborhoods. By Primo Galicia president and CEO, Whereas policies are set up for a particular function in a specific area, principles are guidelines from everyone and are foundational. Policies change when their use is no longer essential within the organization. We all need to put in place “PRINCIPLES” that do not change. Policies will change from time to time, Principles never do! Policies are many, Principal are few! Policies work well for lower management and operational matters at best. A policy should never be held on to and defended when it impedes the program and delay the change needed to make the progress. A policy’s intent is to give clear direction for all working in under it. It creates a better flow in the organization structure. The Basket Is Full, Inc principle is: “Always take the high road.” This principle means that whenever there is debate, questions, tension, or confrontation between, staff and people, I always expect my staff to give the benefit of the doubt to others. This principle is for everyone in my organization at all times. It may have nothing to do with an operational procedure with machines, coffee, shipments or paper, but it has everything to do with people. My suggestion to all Leaders is to – Model your company principles, relate them by answering the question, “How can I use this in my life now?” and applaud your staff when you see them applying them. One of my mottos is when in doubt, Call LEE DUNN! In our Lincoln facility and on our company phone we keep him on speed dial. Hello Team Pur Java Supporters,
A person without experiences sees a vision idealistically. To this individual the vision alone is enough. Naively this person casts the vision to others, expecting the dream to do the work and failing to realize that a vision needs support. A person with experience learns that people buy into the leader before they buy into the vision. Experienced leaders realize that people are fickle and dreams are fragile. This experience had taught me these principles about vision: 1. The credibility of a vision is determined by the leader. 2. The acceptance of a vision is determined by the energy and direction it gives. 3. The evolution of a vision is determined by the commitment level of people 4. The success of a vision is determined by its ownership by both the leader and the people. I read a quote on Presidents Day by Leonard Lauder, president of Estee Lauder, that said, "When a person with experience meets a person with money, the person with experience will get the money. And the person with the money will get the experience." Today, as I sit in my home office, I pondered on Leonard Lauder’s quote. At this moment, and at this time, the lesson that I learned about failing to establish credibility of our vision is solely on me! We thank each one of you for sharing in this experience and for believing in us. Our story doesn't end here, we have new vendors and orders that we commited to filling. Even thought we didn't reach our $8,000 goal, we did received several e-mails through our purjava.com website from people who are interested in becoming a shareholder. We didn't expect that nor were we prepared to see the interest shifting towards equity. The biggest impact for me was to read your names, Antonio Riddick, Melinda, James Gates, Gavin McPherson, Dennis Mckenna, Andre Jones, Arturo Quezada, Carra McClelland, Salli Sternberg, Ken McConnell, Ana Maria Figuroa, Virgil and Tomeka Walker, Aaron Henderson, Alex Stephenson, Mr. Pacg We are still going to create the "Remember Me Board" and place everyone’s name on our facility east wall. We started off as three people who wanted to have a shared experience around a great cup of coffee. Now we have 15 Pur Java supporters who believe and went through this experience with us. When we have moments of doubt we will look at our east wall and see your names and know you are still believing in us. We also will provide you updates twice a year because our shared experiences don't have to end today. In May, we would like to ship each one of you a sample of our Pur Java liquid Concentrate or one of our single origin coffees of your choice. So please head to our website, then answer our survey question so we know were to ship your selection. Again, all of us here at The Basket is Full, Inc are so happy that we crossed each others paths and shared this experience together. Sincerely, Primo Galicia, president and CEO |
